The Hudson'S Bay Company, Fearing Attacks On Its Northern Posts During The 18th Century Wars Between France And England Built One Of The Greatest Northern Fortifications In The World, Fort Prince Of Wales. Fort Prince Of Wales Was Started In 1732 And Completed 40 Years Later In 1772. The Fort Was Ransacked By French Admiral Comte De La Perouse, Who Captured The Fort'S Governor, Samuell Hearne And His Men.The First Scientific Venture Carried Out In Hudson Bay Was Conducted From Fort Prince Of Wales By Christopher Middleton, Who In 1741 Made Telescopic Observations Of The Planet Jupiter. Later On September 10, 1768, William Wales And Joseph Dymond Recored The First Known Instrumented Meteorological Readings In Canada. On June 3, 1769 Two British Astronomers Observed The Transit Of Venus Across The Face Of The Sun For The Royal Astronomical Society
